AGA SYSTEMS COMPETES IN SILVER STATE CLASSIC IN CNG FUELED TRUCK

2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 runs the Silver State Classic Challenge

Kaysville, Utah September 21, 2014 – The Silver State Classic Challenge is a 90 mile road race along Nevada Route 318 that has seen its fair share of hot automobiles and intense racing action over the last 25 years. What the race hasn’t seen until now is a natural gas vehicle among its field of competitors.

In fact, the NGV that ran the this year’s race was a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 crew cab with a GM 6.2 L direct injected engine configured with an AGA Systems bi-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) system. A grueling, but real life test for the only EPA certified bi-fuel CNG system available for GM’s new direct injection engine platform.

Bryan Wilcox, a racing enthusiast and AGA’s Vice President of Business Development, took the truck through Silver State’s stringent pre-race technical inspection process.  The CNG Silverado entered in the 105 mph class, competing with a Cadillac CTS, a ZL-1 Camaro and “an ocean of Corvettes,” according to Wilcox, who was accompanied by Silas Smith, a key member of the AGA Systems engineering team responsible for the development of the new CNG system.

Wilcox raced the truck with the pedal pressed fully to the floor at the factory-governor limited 95 mph for the entire course, as the engine loafed at 3,100 rpm, what he referred to as a “Texas commute”. While not a podium finish, there is little doubt that among the entire field of racers that weekend, bi-fuel CNG stood out as a major winner for simply having a presence and performing flawlessly.

AGA Systems EPA Certified bi-fuel CNG products are now available for GM’s entire 2014 and 2015 light duty truck and SUV platforms, including the  Silverado/Sierra 1500 pickups and vans, Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL, Escalade, Escalade ESV and the Tahoe PPV (police pursuit vehicle) equipped with the General Motors 5.3 L and 6.2 L Direct Injection engine families.  These new products are in addition to the current bi-fuel CNG systems the company offers for GM light and medium duty trucks operating on the 6.0L standard engine platform and the 2.4 L Terrain and Equinox cross-over vehicles.
